B01 BiEne A

Project Information

BiK - Biomass Conditioning

The project BiEne A investigates and optimises the treatment and storage of woodchips or biogenic residues for application in modern biomass district heating plants. Suboptimal storage leads to considerable material and calorific losses.

The project will result in an efficient use of timber resources and at the same time increased profitability of biomass district heating plants. Currently, the woodchip storage practice of 14 biomass heating plants is being inspected. Energy loss during storage will be determined, site-adapted storage and drying concepts for different biomass types will be developed.Apart from the biomass production, its combustion, heat distribution and ash residue recycling, the woodchip storage is a crucial stage in the biomass energy system.

BiEne A contributes to adapting the biomass energy system towards cradle-to-cradle design principles.
