The ENERGY area investigates the impacts of climate change on the Alpine biosphere in order to formulate practical approaches for the sustainable and climate-adapted development of the related socio-economic systems within the context of implemented projects.

With regard to content, the projects encompass the fields of forestry, agricultural science, environmental engineering, microbiology, bioengineering, and user-oriented technology.

The research questions examined range from energy-efficient wastewater treatment to the use of biogenic waste and residual materials for energy production, the appropriate utilization of wood as a building material in light of future climate-related requirements, and the scientific selection of locally suitable and pest- and climate-resilient tree species.
