Process Analyses, Monitoring and Modeling of Deep-seated Landslides in High Mountain Areas

Within the scope of the ProMM research project, the various geological, geomechanical, hydrogeological, and climate-related causes and processes that influence the formation and deformation behaviours of deep-seated mass movements in high mountain areas were investigated. On the basis of interdisciplinary investigations of numerous case studies (by means of field surveys and laboratory analyses, as well as numerical models), the process understanding of landslide formation and deformation mechanisms and slope stability has been significantly increased.

One research focus involved the monitoring of mass movements affected by permafrost and glacial retreat. Based on these investigations, with respect to possible climate changes, methodological procedures and approaches for the assessment of the hazard potential of slow slope deformations as well as rapid fall, slide, and flow processes were developed and improved.
