Green Slopes Part A

Project Information

Green Slopes Part A - Economic, environmental, sustainable and resource-efficient green space management along railtracks

In the project Greenslopes an overall concept for rail-related green areas is developed.

Based on functional and economic requirements of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), life cycle analysis referring green spaces (construction, maintenance, removal) are evaluated and assessed taking into account technical, economic, environmental and safety aspects. Transparent characterization and analysis of the specific functions and ecosystem services of different green spaces (e.g. railway embankments, ecological compensation areas respectively vegetation at traffic stops) serve as a basis for cost efficiency and resource-saving use of materials and measures.

This approach furthermore permits the development of a transparent basis of argumentation and decision-making tools for the planning, implementation and maintenance of measures in the field of green space management.
