Green Slopes Part B

Project Information

Green Slopes Part B - Restoration and protection of the concrete slab sealed balancing reservoir “Rodund I”

Plants have been used in soil-bioengineering for centuries for protection and design of landscape features, buildings and landscape development. A valuable contribution to the stability of slopes due to plants is based on highly effective protection against erosion processes.

Within the framework of GreenSlopes B project all requirements on the restoration and protection of a concrete slab sealed balancing reservoir of the Vorarlberger Illwerke AG in Vandans (Vorarlberg) are recorded and a transparent basis for decisions on technical and biological solutions are developed. For this purpose, techniques and methods to ensure essential functions even under difficult environmental conditions (exposure, climate (-change), morphology, usage etc.) are designed to ensure long term functionality and optimization for different life cycle stages of the construction and the plants.

The focus of the investigation is on the establishment of a long-term stable, site-specific and low-maintenance vegetation. For this experimental plots at the balance reservoir Rodund I were set up and on the other hand small-scale tests in the laboratory are carried out. Various test series with different substrate types, planting methods and soil additives will allow statements about a technically safe, resource efficient and effective use of materials and measures.
