Future_Capacity - Social vulnerability and adaptive capacity to risks from the impacts of future heat waves and air Pollution

Exposure to heat stress and air pollution in Austria.

Future_Capacity - Social vulnerability and adaptive capacity to risks from the impacts of future heat waves and air Pollution

The research project Future_Capacity addresses the exposures of heat stress and air pollution in Austria. It aims to improve the understanding of the emerging climate risks and stresses for households and communities under different socio-ecological conditions. Future_Capacity comprises three main analytical clusters to explore these dynamics:

  1.  Governance aspects to improve future adaptation planning that guide climate risk management and decision making.
  2. Social aspects to determine social vulnerability and individual capacity to cope with heat stress and air pollution.
  3. Climate modelling aspects that consider future changes in heat and surface ozone levels in terms of health impacts on communities.

alpS GmbH is leading WP4 "Designing future capacity-building strategies" which aims to identify stakeholders for improved adaptation in the case studies Graz and Linz. In the further course of WP4, current adaptation capacities as well as possible strategies for increasing capacities in response to future heat and air pollution exposure will be assessed and further developed with these stakeholders through a workshop approach.

This project is funded by the Climate and Energy Fund and is carried out within the framework of the "Austrian Climate Research Programme (ACRP)".
