Flood risk analysis in the context of BREEAM certification
Analysis of building resilience as a key contribution to sustainability assessment.

The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is the world's leading sustainability assessment and certification system for the built environment. The quality of a building and its operation is assessed against nine environmental categories. A key element of this is the assessment criterion Rsl 01 Flood Risk (Environmental Category Resilience), which forms part of the minimum standard for the quality of a building. It includes an assessment of the flood risk for the analysed building. The combination of the number of flood sources considered and their risk classification results in a score that leads to the recognition of sustainability benefits or performance levels. As part of the project, the flood risk for a building in Hanover, Lower Saxony, was assessed and a BREEAM risk classification was carried out.
