Hydro-Climatic Assessment for the Choma Region, Zambia

Towards sustainable water management in Choma

Hydro-Climatic Assessment for the Choma Region, Zambia

alpS Consult is supporting Posch & Partner Consulting Engineers (P&P) as a subcontractor on the 'Management of Water Resources and Sanitation for Medium-Sized Cities (Choma, Southern Province)' project.

The city of Choma is facing mounting challenges regarding its water supply due to ageing infrastructure, population growth, droughts, and changing climate conditions. The city relies on the Muzuma and Choma reservoirs. alpS consult's main tasks are: (i) developing rainfall-runoff modelling to evaluate reservoir inflows; (ii) conducting a flood frequency analysis; and (iii) analysing the impact of climate change on water resources, including simulating hydro-climatic scenarios to assess future water availability. The study by alpS GmbH aims to investigate hydrological processes in the Choma region, focusing particularly on analysing flood frequency and the impact of climate on water availability. This improved understanding will inform the robust design of a climate-resilient water supply.
