Development of a long-term hydrological forecast system

As part of the project, a hydrological long-term forecasting system was developed based on the existing flood forecasting system for the River Inn (HOPI). The system focuses on the long-term inflows to TIWAG’s (Tyrolean hydropower operator) seasonal storage reservoirs and is based on a combination of weather forecasts for the near future and runoff scenarios derived from a range of observed historical weather conditions.

The newly developed software YETI can be used in TIWAG’s energy management department as a decision-support tool for planning power plant operations.
