Advancing Climate Adaptation in Innsbruck (Tyrol)

STARK-INN (Strategies, Technologies, Action Plan & Risk Assessment for a Climate-Resilient Innsbruck)

The STARK-INN project (Strategies, Technologies, Action Plan & Risk Assessment for a Climate-Resilient Innsbruck) aims to further develop climate change adaptation in Innsbruck, a city that is particularly affected by heat due to its valley location. It creates a sound knowledge base, develops measurable indicators and SMART targets, and strengthens the institutional anchoring of adaptation measures. By integrating scientific findings, strategic management, and organizational cooperation, the project aims to renew and further develop the climate adaptation strategy for Innsbruck.

The focus is on three core objectives:

  • Establishing a sound knowledge base through systematic analysis of previous measures, current scientific findings, and new data sources (including an urban microclimate measurement network).
  • Developing verifiable indicators and SMART targets that make changes measurable and enable ongoing effectiveness monitoring.
  • Institutionalizing climate adaptation through greater integration into existing planning and administrative processes and the establishment of an urban coordination office.

As alpS GmbH, our primary focus in this project is on analyzing the City of Innsbruck’s adaptation strategy to date and providing co-creative process support for the further development of measures.
